Statement from Unshackle Upstate Regarding Comptroller DiNapoli’s Thruway Authority Assessment
Statement attributable to Brian Sampson, Unshackle Upstate executive director.
“The report issued today by Comptroller DiNapoli supports what our organization, and many others across the state, have been saying for the past few months – the Thruway Authority’s proposed 45-percent toll increase will be detrimental to trucking companies, the businesses they serve and consumers across the state.
A Thruway toll increase must be the last option, not the first option.
Unshackle Upstate and our partners in this fight will testify at this week’s hearings and will continue to do everything in our power to put a stop to this devastating toll increase.Additionally, we renew our request for Comptroller DiNapoli to take the next step and conduct a forensic audit of the Thruway Authority.
We implore Gov. Cuomo and other elected officials to join us in speaking out against this unconscionable toll hike. Before the Thruway Authority asks for another nickel from toll payers, it must ensure that its own fiscal house is in order.”
