Unshackle Upstate Calls on Elected Leaders to Improve New York’s Business Tax Climate
Statement attributable to Brian Sampson, Unshackle Upstate executive director.
“While our leaders in Albany took important first steps toward improving New York’s business climate and strengthen our economy in 2011, the report published today by The Tax Foundation (http://taxfoundation.org/research/show/22658.html) shows that we still have a long way to go before we can reclaim the title of the Empire State.
If we are serious about significantly improving New York’s business tax climate, our elected leaders must commit to reforming the state’s burdensome regulatory environment. We need to see a commitment to address state agencies that consistently overstep their jurisdiction and by doing so send a chilling message to the business community.
As we continue the vital challenge of rebuilding our economy, we look forward to working with the governor, members of the Legislature and our partners in the business community to address these key issues.
Continued fiscal discipline and reducing state-imposed burdens and costs on business are vital to private-sector investment, job creation and economic growth. Unshackle Upstate’s 2012 policy agenda – which can be found on our website (www.unshackleupstate.com) – holds the keys to unlocking New York’s economic potential.”
